Green Infrastructure Demonstration Project Announced

Subject: Green Infrastructure Demonstration Project Announced

On Friday February 15, 2002 the Washington Post reported the following story in the Metro in Brief Section.

Undeveloped Areas to be Mapped

The National Park Service and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments have announced a five-year program to map undeveloped forests and open land throughout the area.

The $300,000 federal project will add the satellite-driven survey to a database shared by 17 local governments for use when they buy land, enter land conservation agreements or manage water and recreation resources.

"The intent of this is not to limit development nor to accelerate
development. The intent is to enable us to make more informed judgments about what public and private land is most important to our future", said U.S. Rep. James P. Moran Jr.,D-VA).

Attached is a fact sheet about the partnership between the National Park Service and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments for the Green Infrastructure Demonstration Project.
